P J Edwards UK sees continued success in 2014

A GOOD START TO 2014

In the north, we have been installing CFA piles at the Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal on the east Lincolnshire coast and on the west coast drilling out tubular piles on a marine contract at the Moelfre lifeboat station on Anglesey. Close to our northern depot at Doncaster we have been installing over 500 CFA piles for the Finningley & Rossington Relief Road Improvement Scheme. Whilst in Teesside, over 500 CFA piles have been installed for the new Energy from Waste plant at Wilton where our sophisticated design led to the successful restraint of the capping beam for the contiguous piled wall.

In the south, we have been installing over 100 large diameter Rotary and CFA piles to the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road and have just commenced piling on the Bognor Regis Northern Relief Road. Here our offer to install 900mm diameter piles to depths of 25.5 metres using CFA techniques led to a successful contract award. The piles require rebar cages up to 23.0m in length which are being prefabricated and delivered to site in one section. The two preliminary trial piles required for the project have just been load tested to 840 tonnes and achieved settlements of only 12mm.

ONGOING SUCCESS

We now look forward to a return visit to the Kings Cross Redevelopment to install a further 140 piles. The site is situated immediately adjacent to the High Speed Rail Link (HS1) that demands even more stringent safety measures to those usually associated with Network Rail projects. Also in London our work is about to start on the Tidal Basin project where over 500 CFA piles, mainly 900mm diameter will be installed to depths of up to 27 metres below ground.
